So what are your words?

Forty Words

So - got a view on what you've just seen at Brighton Festival? Could you then write it down? Then find out more....

If you’re going out to a Fringe show this year, then the BBC wants to hear from you.

We're inviting festival goers to submit reviews in just forty words - because it’s the fortieth anniversary of the festival.

"The key here is: just say what you thought of what you saw. You don't have to be superbly witty or have a Phd in English."

So what we're looking for is something like this:

The Five Ways Open Houses are some of the highlights of the Fringe - and this year's show has some great work to look at. I really liked the sculpture and the watercolours. I will certainly go again.

So it's just a couple of sentences or so. Not hard, is it?

I thought that the Cucumber Relish Orchestra played a great set on Thursday night – but maybe their guitarist should have stayed at home. Aren’t you meant to tune a guitar before you play it in public? My ears still hurt.

Or maybe this:

The streets of Brighton were packed with eccentrics this weekend – and that was just the locals. The annual street art festival was there too – and it was just as good as ever. But the locals are pretty good too…

The key here is: just say what you thought of what you saw. You don't have to be superbly witty or have a Phd in English.

Forty words: and the Fringe

So, as England's largest arts festival unfolds, you'll see Forty Words post boxes across the city. When you pick up your ticket from a venue, you'll get a Forty Words postcard and all you have to do is write that couple of sentences or so and stick it in the box.

There's a daily prize for the best review - some will get more tickets and the Festival are offering the prize of some Festival Friends Memberships. You'll be able to see the reviews on this site and on our festival WAP service - just text Brighton to 810810.

By the way, we're also looking for volunteer reviewers who will go out and see a show - and then talk about on tv or on the radio. If you want to be a volunteer and see a show for free, email [email protected] to find out more.
