|  | Film critic and broadcaster Mark Kermode picked his favourites from the shortlist of films in this year's festival.

He is also a contributing editor to Sight & Sound, a regular writer for the Observer, and a panellist on Newsnight Review.
Mark is the author of two British Film Institute Modern Classics, on The Exorcist and The Shawshank Redemption.
He has a PhD in Modern English and American Horror Fiction, and is a Fellow of the English and Film Department of Southampton University.
He also plays the double bass in local rockabilly band, The Dodge Brothers - regulars at the Thomas Tripp, in Lymington.
