The Rebels, who are vying for a play-off place to see who will be champions, will now take on Edinburgh and Newcastle on 19 September at the Oak Tree Arena. The matches had to be re-scheduled as they were previously rained off. The meet will start at an earlier time of 7pm in order for both of the meets to finish before the council imposed curfew.
Spokesperson for the Rebels, Ian Belcher, said the new start time was earlier than normal which was not ideal as some people might not be able to get there on time and that it would be difficult for them to fit 30 races plus a 30 minute break into three hours. The Rebels had wanted to stage the meets on two separate nights however Sedgemoor District Council refused. Spokesperson for the council, Claire Faun, said they refused to grant planning permission because the Rebels' contract was very stringent in terms of when they can and can't race in order to take into consideration residents' feelings who may be affected by the noise and traffic. "It is quite an intrusive noise so the council has to do a balancing act," she said. "It might only be a few people affected but they still have equal rights. "We have tried to be as lenient as possible which is why there's conditions to protect everyone." last updated: 07/09/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Somerset > Sport > Speedway and Motorsport > Rebels face 'double header' drama [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
