The American teenagers have been on a tour of the Conference League circuit for the last couple of weeks, and have put up some creditable performances along the way. This match was a close-fought affair. As you would expect, Jordan Frampton and Danny Warwick provided the main firepower for the Giants. Frampton took two rides and two wins, and Warwick provided an unbeaten 8+1 from his three. Of the regular Academy riders, Matt Bates again impressed, despite a first-race fall. His second race was particularly impressive, as he came from last on the opening lap to win, picking off his rivals one by one around the inside. After some fine recent displays, Oliver Gay had a night he would want to forget, with two falls in his two rides. Jay Pickard, with a night off from his Conference League duties, was able to take his place in the Giants' side, and scored a useful win and a third from his three rides. Marc Andrews took a reserve ride in heat six, but was unable to add to the Giants' tally. USA Dream TeamThe visitors were not disgraced and gave a good account of themselves, especially as this match came at the end of a hard tour, with both man and machine showing distinct signs of tiredness. The experienced Tommy Hedden provided the main scoring force, with eight points including a heat win. Dale Facchini was lively and kept the Giants up to their work with two second places. Kenny Ingalls had a second spot. Tim Gomez was disappointed with his own performance, in only scoring three thirds in his four rides. For the decent numbers of fans that stayed on for this match, the two sides provided some entertaining racing. The US team can be happy that they showed themselves in a positive light in the closing stages of a tough tour. |
