With Drabik (illness) and Walasek (travel problems) unable to take their place in the visitors' lineup, Częstochowa's task always looked a tall order, and the early heats seemed to be supporting this as the Rebels cruised into an early 13-point lead, supplying six heat-winners in the opening seven races. However, with Kennett a consistent thorn in the side of the home riders, and some spirited riding by the very impressive Szczepaniak, surely, on this showing, a star of the future, Somerset could take nothing for granted. A tactical-ride win by Kennett brought Częstochowa to within six points of the Rebels with the final six heats remaining. | | Zorro scored yet another imperious maximum |
Any thoughts the visitors might have had of pulling off a shock victory were dashed. Magnus Zetterstrom carried on from where he left off last season, scoring yet another imperious maximum, and Emil Kramer provided excellent backup. The Rebels were never seriously threatened and they ran out comfortable winners in the end, although they made their task harder than it should have been: Frampton, Warwick and Hawkins all suffered falls when in points-scoring positions, gifting points to the opposition in the process. From the home side's perspective, this was a good solid workout with which to start the season, and the three new boys in the lineup - Suchanek, Frampton and Warwick - all showed what they will be capable of once the season starts in earnest. It was an encouraging return to the Oak Tree Arena after his year away at Workington for Ritchie Hawkins. |
