Rebels are the champions!

Ian Belcher
The Somerset Rebels claimed their first-ever Premier League tournament title at Workington's Derwent Park on Sunday 21 August, 2005.

Led by skipper Magnus Zetterstrom, the team, which consisted of Glenn Cunningham, Paul Fry, Ritchie Hawkins and reserve Chris Mills, won the Premier League Fours Championship with an excellent all-round team performance.

Team manager Mick Bell said: "I'm just so pleased for everyone associated with the club.

"This victory was for everybody, not just the riders and management, but also all the fans. We are one big happy family and this championship was for them."

The other semifinal was won by Workington.

In the 12-heat final, the Rebels trailed the other three teams after the first four heats.

However, a series of inspired rides by each member of the team in the next four races saw Somerset go into the last four heats with a one-point advantage over Workington.

In a fantastic final heat, Magnus Zetterstrom took the race victory.

A joyous win

Rebels captain Magnus Zetterstrom couldn't contain his joy at the victory.

"When Pete Toogood contacted me about riding for Somerset this season, I said that I wanted to win trophies," Zetterstrom said.

"As this is Somerset's first-ever championship trophy since joining the Premier League, it makes the victory all the sweeter."

Somerset Rebels co-promoter Jo Lawson was also really pleased with the Rebels' win.

She said: "I had a feeling that the lads would do something special in this event and I am so pleased that they proved me right.

"I urge as many fans as possible to come and salute the team on this marvellous achievement. The Trophy will be at the Oak Tree Arena for all to see."
