Ritchie Hawkins
Hawkins didn't disappoint in heat three

Premier League: Somerset 47-43 Reading

James Murphy
A thorough team performance by the Somerset Rebels gave them a good victory over the Reading Racers, who, after their initial burst, could not match a determined Rebels side.

With the return of Danny Bird to the Reading Racers' ranks, this was always going to be a tough meeting for the Somerset Rebels.

A good heat win, over Danny Bird, by Jamie Smith in heat one surprisingly only drew the heat, as the Rebels' skipper found himself at the back, for a rare last place.

Paul Fry and Ritchie Hawkins

Another draw in heat two saw the Racers' shrewd choice of guest, Tomas Suchanek, record his first win of the night.

The Rebels' fans know, however, that they can always rely on the Paul Fry and Ritchie Hawkins pairing, and it was no different in heat three, as they recorded a 5-1 maximum heat advantage.

But The Racers were not easily beaten, as by heat eight they had recorded three heat advantages, and led the meeting by six points.

Heat advantages

The Rebels, yet again, displayed their resilience by recording five heat advantages, in as many heats, to lead by 12 after heat 14.

Chris Mills won the favour of the Rebels' fans, as he held off the flying Suchanek in heat 12, to land another maximum heat for the home side.

He then beat Richard Wolff in heat 14 to earn Somerset both the league and bonus points.
