All eyes were on new signings Trevor Harding and Chris Mills in heat two, and they delighted the home fans by recording a 4-2 heat advantage. Earlier concerns about Paul Fry's fitness, following his horrific spill last week, were soon answered, as he stormed away from the tapes to take a heat three win. His team mate Ritchie Hawkins fought from last to second to earn the Rebels a 5-1. Somerset edge further ahead The Rebels' onslaught continued as Glenn Cunningham held off Stuart Robson in heat four to take the win. The ever-reliable Hawkins and Fry pairing recorded their second successive maximum in heat five to give the Rebels a 21-9 lead. Stoke, however, used their tactical rides cleverly in heat six. Robson stormed away from the gate for double points, whilst Robbie Kessler did the same in heat eight. The deficit was now reduced to just eight points. Heat 10 was the race of the night. In a keenly contested first lap, it was the Rebels' skipper Magnus Zetterstrom who managed to gain the lead. Somerset managed to edge further ahead in heats 12 and 13 with some determined riding from Ritchie Hawkins. In heat 12, he passed a fast-starting Hargreaves and Paul Clews with one burst of speed, whilst new signing Mills also battled his way to third to land the Rebels a 4-2. A tremendous team performance Heat 13 was again another exciting race, as both Zetterstrom and Cunningham fought their way around their opponents to take a comfortable maximum heat advantage. With a 16-point lead securing both the League and bonus points, the Somerset Rebels consolidated their lead by neutralising the Potters' attack with two shared heats in the remaining races. The experienced Mogridge and Fry battled all the way in heat 14, and in heat 15, Zetterstrom earnt his heat win the hard way by blasting between the fast-starting Potters pair in one breathtaking move. Yet again, the Somerset fans were treated to a great evening's racing, and a tremendous team performance, which bodes well for their battle towards the play-offs. |
