Assuming no further changes to any future fixtures, this should be the Rebels' final home Premier League match of the season. It could be crucial for their ambitions to reach the end of season Young Shield Play-Off matches, especially if the team gain a good result at their match away at Hull on Wednesday 13 July. Sheffield Tigers have now also confirmed that the Somerset Rebels will be the visitors at the Owlerton Stadium on Thursday 1 September. The original date for this meeting that was due to take place on 16 June had to be postponed because of Sheffield's involvement in the latter stages of the Premier Trophy. It has also been announced that Somerset's Glenn Cunningham is meeting reserve for the Championship of Great Britain Final that is to be held at Oxford's Sandy Lane track on Sunday 10 July. Should any of the programmed riders not be able to take their place in the meeting, then Glenn will be their replacement in the main competition. Following hot on the heels of the Rebels' finishing runners up in the Premier League Pairs Championship, and Magnus Zetterstrom finishing fourth in the Swedish Championship, Glenn's involvement in the Championship of Great Britain is yet further proof of the way the Rebels are making their mark on the 2005 season. This does, however, provide Mick Bell (Rebels' Team Manager) with a selection problem, as the Somerset Rebels are due to ride at Glasgow in a Premier League match (where there is a start time of 6pm) the same day as Glenn being on duty in the Championship of Great Britain. As things currently stand the only option available to Bell is to operate 'Rider Replacement' facility for the absent Cunningham at Glasgow, where the Rebels defend a 17-point advantage from the home match held at the Oak Tree Arena in May. |
