Dubbed The David Beckham of Jazz and Sinatra in Sneakers, Jamie will be performing at the Recreation Ground to raise funds for the Royal United Hospital Bath's Forever Friends Appeal. It's one of only two shows Jamie will be performing in the UK this summer, and he'll be supported by fellow jazz star, Clare Teal. The BBC's Victoria Webb caught up with John Cullum, Jamie's father, and Clare Teal to talk about the event. Equally at home singing Radiohead or Gershwin, Jamie (who's still in his early twenties) is one of the UK's biggest selling jazz artists of all time. He released his debut album, Pointless Nostalgic, in 2002. Within a year, he was offered a deal with major jazz label Verve Records. In 2003, his second record, Twentysomething, became the first album by a UK jazz artist to achieve platinum sales (over 300,000 copies). Fellow jazz singer Clare Teal will also be appearing at the concert. Dubbed the New Queen of Swing, Clare first recommended Jamie to Candid Records which released Jamie's first album. What a Diff'rence a Day Made Launched in October 1999, The Forever Friends Appeal aims to raise £10 million for state of the art equipment, primarily in the areas of Children, Cancer, Cardiology and Critical Care. | | Clare Teal will also be performing |
Tim Hobbs, Head of Fundraising at The Forever Friends Appeal, said: "We were very excited when Jamie's father, John Cullum, who is a Vice President of the charity, offered to help us secure Jamie's support." Although the Appeal has reached the £5 million mark, funds from Jamie's concert will go towards a second £760,000 CT scanner which is urgently needed. Jamie said: "The Forever Friends Appeal is a charity with relevance to absolutely everyone in this area. "Having grown up in the region, my friends and family are among the 500,000 people who could find themselves relying on the services provided by the hospital and I am therefore very excited to be able to help the Appeal in this way."
