Skipper Magnus Zetterstrom gave the Rebels a perfect start, with victory over Falcons' number one Mark Lemon in the opening heat.

Exeter managed only one heat-winner in the first 11 heats when Seemond Stephens had the better of Glenn Cunningham in heat four. That was the only point dropped by Somerset's top three in the first 12 heats.

Racing to thrill

Although the scores were comfortable enough for Somerset, there was still some closely contested racing to thrill a bumper Good Friday crowd.

Paul Fry was back to his best at the Oak Tree Arena, powering inside Lee Smethills on the third lap to win heat three.

Zetterstrom had to come from behind in heat six. He eventually snatched victory from Stephens by nipping inside the Falcons' skipper on the final bend.

Stephens, taking a rider replacement outing, made the gate in the next race but was overhauled by Cunningham, who came around the outside on the second lap to secure victory.

Jamie Smith gained his one victory of the evening when he came from behind to beat Pavel Ondrasik in heat eight.

By that time Somerset had opened up a 10-point lead which allowed the visitors to give Stephens a tactical ride in heat nine.

The switch failed to give the Falcons any real benefit, with Fry and Ritchie Hawkins taking the major placings in a 5-2 heat win.

A fine evening for the Rebels

Exeter's first heat advantage came in heat 11 when Lemon was nominated for a tactical ride. Initially, the Australian trailed Smethills and Cunningham, but the home man eased into second place, giving Exeter a 5-3 win.

Former Rebel Lemon gained his first win of the evening in heat 13 when he held off a determined challenge from Cunningham, with Zetterstrom relegated to third place.

Toni Svab, who suffered mechanical failure in his first race, finished strongly with a couple of victories, including heat 14 when he inflicted Fry's only defeat.

That helped Exeter reduce their deficit to nine points going into the final heat.

Zetterstrom rounded off a fine evening for himself and the Rebels with victory over Lemon, while Cunningham held off Svab for third place.
