Magnus Zetterstrom
Magnus won a double tactical heat

Premier Trophy: King's Lynn 51-44 Somerset Rebels

Ian Belcher and Paul Oughton
On a excellently prepared Norfolk Arena circuit, the Somerset Rebels put up a strong fight to limit a strong King's Lynn side to just a seven-point victory.

Premier Trophy
King's Lynn - 51: Tomas Topinka (12 ), James Brundle (3, +2 ), Kevin Doolan (8, +1 ), Adam Allott (8 ), Oliver Allen (9 ), Jan Jaros (3, +1 ), Troy Batchelor (8 )
Somerset Rebels - 44: Magnus Zetterstrom (17), Jamie Smith (2), Ritchie Hawkins (5, +2), Paul Fry (7), Glenn Cunningham (8), Lee Smart (1, +1), Jason King (4)

After heat four, the Premier Trophy fixture looked to be firmly in the hands of King's Lynn, as they led by 17-7.

The Rebels, however, had other ideas, as Magnus Zetterstrom won a double tactical heat to reduce the deficit to only five.

The meeting was a tremendous advert for speedway, as the Rebels battled from the back to gain points.

The race of the night was heat seven, when Paul Fry and Oliver Allen passed and re-passed in thrilling style, the latter gaining the upper hand on the last lap.

The action didn't stop there - a controversial heat 11 had the crowd stirring, as Jan Jaros' over-zealous riding against Magnus Zetterstrom earned the wrath of the Rebels' captainĀ and the confrontation continued into the pits.

It was the last three heats that the Rebels kicked into gear: they recorded three 4-2s in the last three heats to keep the deficit to just seven points and set up the exciting prospect of an Oak Tree Arena Bonus battle on 8 April.

If the action at King's Lynn was anything to go by, the return fixture will be an encounter not to be missed.
