Police officers providing security to VIP’s have been ordered to be in uniform while on duty, police spokesman Maxi Proctor said.

He said that this decision has been taken following on going discussions and not related to the recent shoot out in which presidential advisor Bharatha Luxman Premachandra succumbed to injuries in the Kolonnawa area in a confrontation with Defence ministry Advisor Duminda Silva.

However the police spokesman admitted that policeman providing security were with the politicians at the time of shooting that has clamed four lives.

The Criminal Investigations Department conducting investigations on the shooting has taken five suspects and a haul of arms in to custody, said SSP Proctor.

However, the police spokesman said that he is not in position to comment on whether Parliamentarian Duminda Silva is a suspect, as it would 'prejudice the investigation'.

Meanwhile, Dr SVK Gamage at Jayawardenapura hospital told BBC Sinhala service that parliamentarian Duminda Silva is stable and the situation is being closely monitored
