Malinga retires from Tests
Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga announced that he intends to retire from Test cricket "to prolong my career". "In January of this year I wrote a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket and released a statement to the media confirming that I planned to reassess my Test future after the World Cup," he said in a statment. "After the tournament I decided that I needed to make myself unavailable for Test cricket in an effort to prolong my career as a national cricketer for Sri Lanka," the statement added. In a recent interview with BBC's Charles Haviland in Colombo, Malinga said he took part in the last Test series although he was not fully fit as it was the last series that Muttiah Muralitharan took part. "I have carefully considered my options and have decided that not playing Test cricket will help me achieve my goal of representing Sri Lanka in the 2012 World Twenty20 and the 2015 World Cup," his statement issued on Friday said. Lasith Malinga says he will soon return to Sri Lanka from India where he takes part in the IPL season to discuss his future options with the selectors. | LOCAL LINKS Dilshan appointed captain18 April, 2011 | Sandeshaya Those late from IPL'would be replaced'says minister14 April, 2011 | Sandeshaya Sangakkara resigns from captaincy05 April, 2011 | Sandeshaya Murali 'never used' computers04 April, 2011 | Sandeshaya
