” It can't be the present. It can't be future,” said the Indian External Affairs Minister, S M Krishna on Tuesday.

Addressing a press briefing, he said that fishermen from Tamilnadu will be fully protected so that they could persue their activities without any hindrance.

Krishna also added that he had directed Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao to convene a meeting of the joint working group between India and Sri Lanka in mid February.

Journalists quarried why killing of fishermen happen only in the waters between India and Sri Lanka while such incidents do not happen in the waters between neighboring Pakistan or Bangladesh.

The minister said that as both countries have very cordial relations, the Sri Lankan Government will have to revisit this question and take certain decisions to avoid upsetting bilateral relations.

Commenting on the allegations that the Sri Lankan navy was responsible for the killings, Minister Krishna said that president Mahinda Rajapsha has ordered a very serious investigation and is awaiting the report ,
