Sri Lanka challenges boxer's dope test
Manju Wanniarachchi
Sri Lanka says the test on B sample has not been carried out according to international standards
Sri Lanka is to file an appeal challenging the finding of Indian authorities confirming that Sri Lankan gold medallist boxer has taken performance enhance drugs.

Sri Lanka Amateur Boxing Association (SLABA) says that it cannot agree with the findings of the dope test on Manju Wanniarachchi.

"We are not satisfied that the tests are in accordance with international standards," SLABA media spokesman Sudam S Pahalagama told BBC Sandeshaya on Sunday.

SLABA lawyer has already objected to the findings when Manju Wanniarachchi's second sample too tested positive on 12 November.

'Few months'

Sri Lanka's National Olympic Committee (NOC) has confiscated the gold medal won by boxer Manju Wanniarachchi at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games after he tested positive to performance enhancing drugs.

The result of the test was announced on 24 October.

Wanniarachchi has admitted taking medication from an alternative medical practitioner in Kurunegala, NOC president Hemasiri Fernando earlier told BBC Sandeshaya.

SLABA says that its lawyer Kalinga Indratissa is preparing an appeal to Commonwealth Games Federation in UK.

Nine Australian athletes could face two-year bans after testing positive for a banned drug, according to the country's Sports Anti-Doping Authority.

At least three Nigerians have failed the drug test at the Commonwealth Games.
