The Sri Lankan housemaid L.P. Ariyawathi has been cleared of any adverse mental conditions. Mrs.Ariyawathie said that she faced a psychological test at the Angoda mental hospital and doctors had cleared her of any such mental conditions. There was speculation from the Saudi Arabian officials that she was making false allegations due to her mental conditions. Mrs.Ariyawathie said that she has recovered to some extent but needs further medical treatment to remove remaining nails inflicted into her body by her Saudi employer. I have been advised to live in a safe and clean environment to prevent germs infesting my wounds but that is not possible as I do not have a proper house to live. However, she acknowledged that the housing Development authority, presidential fund and the foreign employment bureau have provided her with help to build a house and cover hospital expenses.
Dossier handed An official of the Sri Lankan embassy in Saudi Arabia said that a dossier regarding Ariyawathi’s case had been handed over to the government of Saudi Arabia and awaiting a response. Mrs.Ariyawathie said that she is expecting compensation. Human rights organizations have called for proper investigation and the perpetrators to be punished.
