Govt. not sincere says UNP
The United National Party (UNP) is concerned about the sincerity of the government on its plans to bring constitutional reforms, says General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayaka. Hidden agenda Attanayaka said that the government is working on a hidden agenda to weaken the opposition. He claims that the government which has a majority close upon a two third was patronising opposition members to support them by giving positions in government in return. “This is an attempt to weaken the opposition, and something for the opposition to give thoughts.” he said. Consenses The UNP do agree to amend the constitution based on common consensus and not on individual party base, Attanayaka said. Only after a clarification by the government’s sincerity and seriousness, the UNP will decide on whether to continue talks on constitutional reforms with the government, he said. The UNP Secretary General, Tissa Attanayaka said that during the last few days the government had been able to get two opposition members to support them. The UNP consider this as a deliberate attempt of weakening the opposition, Attanayaka added.
