Sri Lanka to host T20 World Cup
Twenty20 World Cup
Sri Lanka failed to perform well at the last T20 World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved an application by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to host the Twenty20 World Cup in 2012.

The decision was taken at the recently concluded ICC meeting in Singapore, the SLC said in a statement.

It is the first time that Sri Lanka has been selected as the host nation for the T20 world Cup which is scheduled to be held in September 2012.

Sri Lanka were the runners up of the 2009 T20 World Cup held in England in 2009.

During the last T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, there have been media reports that skipper Sangakkara has vehemently opposed the selection of parliamentarian Sanath Jayasuriya despite his failing to perform in recent games.

But the team management has denied the reports.
