The actress says she was threaned with death by her won party men
A veteran film actress defeated in the recent parliamentary polls says she is considering legal action against her own party leaders.

Geetha Kumarasinghe, a ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidate for the Galle district, told BBC Sandeshaya that she was initially among the winning candidates but by the end of counting, she has lost the election.

But she refused to reveal the names of the culprits.

"It was all done by my own party people. But unfortunately it is difficult for me to reveal the names," she said.

She was forced to send independent monitors to counting centres as she was not allowed to appoint her own polling agents, Ms. Kumarasinghe said.

They only harassed their own party supporters. My cut outs were burnt, I was not allowed to paste posters, I was threatened with death, they instigated people to throw stones at me, they did everything possible against me

There was nobody to monitor the counting process at the time her preferential votes were counted, according to the popular film star.

Ms. Kumarasinghe said she was threatened and harassed by the regional leaders of President Rajapaksa's UPFA since she launched the election campaign.

"They only harassed their own party supporters. My cut outs were burnt, I was not allowed to paste posters, I was threatened with death, they instigated people to throw stones at me, they did everything possible against me."

Controversial former provincial councillor, Nishantha Mutuhettigama received most preferential votes in Galle district while the district leader, former minister Piyasena Gamage, was the fifth among seven elected candidates.
