'Fast unto death' to release Fonseka
Gen.Sarath Fonseka
A campaign has been initiated by the National Bhikku Front calling for the release of General Sarath Fonseka.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and supporters of General Sarath Fonseka have joined the fast launched by the monks opposite the Fort Railway Station.

Four Buddhist priests and two laymen who have already begun the fast said that they would continue their fast until the release of Gen. Sarath Fonseka.

Rev. Lunugamvehera Kalyanaransi thera said that he decided to join the fast because the government is taking revenge from General Fonseka.

“If General Sarath Fonseka is not released by tomorrow (Sunday) we will continue our fast until death” said Venerable Lunugamvehere Kalyanaransi thera.

The Venerable Professor Athangane Ratanapala thera said that it is the responsibility of the Buddhist clergy to speak for justice.

"Thousands of Buddhist priests have pledged support for the campaign calling for the release of General Sarath Fonseka.", the Ven.Ratanapala Thera added.
