More than a one hundred student’s from a school in Batticaloa had been rushed to hospital after showing symptoms of poisoning.

Students of a school in the Waunathive area were hospitalized after they showed signs of food poisoning. Reporter Shanthi Selvadurai said the students were complaining of stomach aches, dizzyness and were vomiting.

“Students fell ill after taking their mid day meal, that was provided by the school “said Selvadurai.

The school is a beneficiary of the World Food Programme meals for school’s and the meals had been cooked in the school kitchen.

Students poisioned

The children as well as parents suspect that the drinking water drawn from the well was contaminated.

One of the students said, “I drank water from the well and it’s after that I fell ill”

The Principal of the Irratucholaimadu school said that there has been some rivalry among two parties involved in the cooking.

Police investigations are continuing. Fifteen of the students have been admitted to Batticaloa teaching hospital., while the rest have been sent home after receiving treatment.
