At least 100,000 IDPs still remain in the camps, says the UN
There are nearly 46,000 eligible voters among the displaced people in Sri Lanka, the department of elections says.

The elections commissioner said the most of them, just over 32,000, are registered from the Vanni district.

There is a considerable number of voters from Jaffna district.

The department said every eligible voter will soon be informed of the alternative voting centre allocated for them.

There are nearly 300,000 voters in Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts, according to official figures.

The Commissioner also said that measures are underway to identify those IDPs registered in centres but have since resettled in there ancestral lands.

Nearly 300,000 IDPs were until recently held in detention camps in Vavuniya; At least 100,000 of them are still in camps according to UN figures.

But the government says just over 70,000 of them still remain in camps.
