The opposition coalition which has rejected the election result says it will explore the possibility of taking legal action, says the leader of the opposition Ranil Wickremasinghe. The political action to be taken is being discussed by the parties of the opposition, Mr.Wickremasinghe said in a joint opposition statement on Friday. He said that assumption that election results are fraudulent is based on the statement made by the Election Commissioner, Dayananda Dissanayaka just before releasing election results. Pressure “We need to find out if the Election Commissioner was under pressure on the day election results were announced,” said opposition leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe.
Mr.Wickremasinghe said that holding of the election had been relatively peaceful but a number of polling agents were chased away in the night The leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Somawansa Amarasinghe expressing the same sentiments told Sandesaya that they will mobilize masses to protest against the election result.
“The JVP is looking forward to legal action to challenge the election result”, Mr.Amerasinghe said. Housing Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that allegations of election fraud are baseless.
