Violence killed UPFA supporter
Security forces - police, army, and navy - were unable to control violence in Madurankuliya, Puttlam following a supporter of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) was killed, Lankadeepa correspondent in Chilaw Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe said.

The 19 year old youth from Anamaudwa was killed in a clash between supporters of the UPFA and General Sarath Fonseka.

The youth, Aruna Saman Kumara was killed in a shooting and another six UPFA supporters were injured, three critically.

The UPFA supporters were on their way to a rally at Madurankulia from Anamaduwa when the clash broke out near a cut out of Gen.Fonseka erected near the house of UNP provincial councillor, Anjana Sandaruwan.

Two buildings burnt

The UPFA supporters then set fire to a shop and another building belonging to the provincial councillor, Lankadeepa correspondent said.

This is the second election related death reported ten day ahead of the Presidential election.

A supporter of the opposition candidate Sarath Fonseka was killed in Hungama, Tangalle just four days before this incident.

Media attacked

Swarnavahni and Derana TV correspondents who were reporting the Anamaudwa incident were brutally attacked and camera equipment of Derana media were destroyed, Lankadeepa correspondent Jayasinghe said.
