The British government says it has allocated nearly five million dollars to aid projects for Sri Lankan civilians displaced by recent fighting between the government and Tamil Tiger rebels. The Department for International Development (DfID) says the money will be used to help over two hundred and eighty thousand people return home. "Conditions in the camps are improving, but are still basic. There are reports of high levels of malnutrition, overcrowding and inadequate access to decent water and sanitation facilities," a DfID statement issued on Tuesday said. It said the funds would help provide logistics, transport, emergency shelters and basic services. The agency said that it would also give people cash grants so that they could buy seeds and tools.
