The judiciary in Sri Lanka has granted a request by police to further detain a Tamil parliamentarian arrested on suspicion of helping the LTTE. Colombo chief magistrate who visited the police headquarters in Colombo has ordered to detain Vanni MP Sathasivam Kanagaratnam for a further 90 days. The magistrate has made the order upon considering an appeal by police Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Mr. Kanagaratnam, MP, was detained by the security forces on 21 May at a camp for displaced in Vavuniya, the CID has told the court. While questioning the MP it was revealed that he has committed offences under emergency regulations, police added. The Police who accused Mr. Kanagaratnam of supporting the activities of the LTTE told courts that investigations are yet to be concluded.
