The new chief justice Asoka de Silva has said that Sri Lanka is not able to go against fundamentals of international law, but its sovereignity must be kept supreme at all times despite country's small population and land. The Chief Justice resuming his duties at the Supreme Court Complex on Thursday said that judiciary is the backbone of a civilised society, and that it has no place for autocratic and arbitrary behaviour. Fair judgements Quoting a verse from Dhammapada - Buddhist Scriptures, the Chief Justice said that jurisdiction and justice must be determined in a way that is acceptable to all the parties. "He is not just, who arbitrates hastily.
