India against 'Sri Lanka aggression'
The son of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi says India is against the “aggressive behaviour” of Sri Lankan government. Speaking to media in Delhi Rahul Gandhi said that India has tried “reasonably successfully” to stop the bloodshed in Sri Lanka. “The LTTE is a terrorist organisation. The Tamils of Sri Lanka are innocent civilians. We are completely against the Sri Lankan aggressive behaviour in the area,” he said. Mr. Gandhi, MP, is a general secretary of India’s ruling Congress Party. Earlier, his sister Priyanka Gandhi has echoed similar views. Speaking in a rare BBC interview while campaigning for the Congress Party she said her country needs to do all it can to help Tamil civilians trapped in the conflict in Sri Lanka. Both Priyanka and Rahul, whose father was assassinated by Tamil Tiger rebels from Sri Lanka, drew a distinction between the rebels and Tamil civilians. | LOCAL LINKS Karunanidhi ends fast27 April, 2009 | Sandeshaya Priyanka says Tamil civilians deserve support23 April, 2009 | Sandeshaya India 'ready' to mediate in Lanka16 February, 2009 | Sandeshaya Extradite LTTE chief - Congress03 January, 2009 | Sandeshaya
