No support for LTTE - Canada

Sri Lanka expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Canada after the tsunami
The Canadian government has promised not to provide any assistance to Tamil Tiger elements, the Sri Lankan government say.

The pledge was made by the Canadian International Cooperation Minister Beverly Oda, the defence ministry website said.

Minister Oda was in Sri Lanka for a one day official visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.

"Canada proscribed the LTTE as a terrorist organisation in 2006 and that policy decision remains unchanged," the minister was quoted by the ministry website.

The minister has expressed satisfaction over the facilities provided to the displaced civilians and has pledged to continue with Canadian assistance to Sri Lanka, it said.

Canada has also pledged three million US dollars to help displaced in Sri Lanka, AFP reported.

The Sri Lankan government has expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Canadian Government to Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the tsunami.
