A team of Indian doctors were welcomed in Colombo by the Minister of Health Nimal Siripala de Silva. A 52-member Indian medical team including physicians and surgeons are to set up a hospital in Pulmoddai in the Trincomalee District. Minister De Silva said that India had extended its kindness to the people of Sri Lanka in a positive manner. He stressed that looking after the displaced people "is the responsibility of the government of Sri Lanka and not anybody else” He said that the interaction between the suffering and the Indian medical team would bring about a new understanding of the ground situation. Minister de Silva also praised India for taking a pragmatic approach in providing humanitarian support. “They have come at a time of need and demonstrated their constructive support” said the Minister, de Silva. Minister said that the hospital at Pulmoddai will be operational within the next few days. High Commissioner of India, Alok Prasad, handed over to the Minister the consignment of medicines gifted by the Government of India to the Government of Sri Lanka.
