President of the NPC, JVP MP Vijitha Herath in a media conference on Sunday said that there should be public support for the war and not for devolution of power.

He said that the government is trying to bring in devolution proposals which "help strengthen the LTTE and separatism".

"NPC is totally against any such attempts by the government to devolve power that go beyond the 13th Amendment. We support the war in order to defeat LTTE ideologically and are prepared to do any sacrifice. This does not mean that NPM is supporting the Government ", MP Vijitha Herath said.

Journalists who referred to reports that there is international pressure for the government to enter into a dialogue with the LTTE, raised the question what preparations the government has on the basis of the All Party Representative Committee (APRC).

MP Vijitha Herath who named the APRC as a One Party Representative Committee accused it of constantly discussing the ways of sharing power beyond the 13th Amendment.

Devolution, he said, is not the solution for the national question.
