The government says that it has implemented the Supreme Court ruling by reducing the price of petrol by twenty rupees for three wheelers and by two rupees for the general public per litre. According to a cabinet decision taken on Tuesday the public would be able to buy petrol at hundred and twenty rupees a litre while three wheeler owners could buy petrol at hundred rupees a litre. “Three wheeler owners will be provided with coupons to buy petrol to the value of a maximum of thousand five hundred rupees and they will have to fix a meter ," said media minister Lakshman yapa Abeywardena. The minister said the government will be making a detailed presentation on the overall tax system to the Supreme Court in the near future. The Supreme Court earlier ordered the government to reduce the price of a litre of ptrol to one hundred rupees.
