Court warns police
Protest against Minister Mervyn Silva
Colombo Magistrate Court ordered police to conduct impartial investigations into the incident where Minister Mervyn Silva is alleged to have attacked Sirasa cameraman in Kelaniya.

The court ordered police to conduct investigations on evidence other than the CDs produced in the court.

Additional Magistrate Manjula Thilakaratne told police that it is the responsibility of the police to arrest suspects as directed by the court order.

After considering a request by the Peliyagoda police, Additional Magistrate Thilakartne said that the News Director of Sirasa, Susil Kindelpitiya had refused to give a statement with regard to the evidence on the CDs produced in courts.

Peliyagoda Police said that as a result they were unable to take a decision on the validity of the CDs.

Additional Magistrate Thilakaratne advised the police that it is the court that will decide on the validity of the CDs and not the police.

Warning not to interfere with the work of the court, Additional Magistrate Thilakartne directed the police to conduct investigations on evidence other than the CDs.

The judge issued summons to News Director of Sirasa, Susil Kindelpitiya to appear in court on August 18 to make a statement pertaining to the two CDs produced in the court.
