The CaFFE gave this warning at its first media conference held to brief media on their election monitoring campaign in the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.

Violence at peak

The media spokesman for CaFFE, Ranjith Keerthi Thennakoone told Sandesaya that 'violence and how to face it' has become the prime importance for the campaign of the main political parties - United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the United National Party (UNP) not the development or welfare of the two regions.

Thennakoone said CaFFE has observed the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) carrying out with their campaign freely but they are facing attacks by thugs.

"This is more prevailant in Ratnapura district compared to Anuradhapura", Thennakoone said.

CaFFE has received over 140 election related violence and the two elections will record in the history of Sri Lanka as the most violent elections.

Offcials corrupt

Thennakoone said there have been serious corrupt practices seen in the postal vote and even the officials engaged in the conduct of polls are alleged to have involved in this.

"They have not taken any action against malpractices and not fulfilling their responsibilities", he said.

Thennakoone said the police should carry out their duties impartially. If not, the political parties can go to courts against those police and armed forces personnel.

CaFFE has the capacity to take legal action if there is evidence to prove, he said.

Defending the allegations levelled against them that CaFFE is biased towards UNP, Thennakoon said it is the government which is misusing public property so the blame and the opposition benefit.

"CaFFE is a peoples' organisation and people know about its activities", Thennakoone added.
