President Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking to ‘Sandeshaya’ said that it was his duty to encourage the Sri Lankan athletes participating in the Olympics. “Participation is more important than wining medals” said president Rajapaksa to Elmo Fernando in an interview from Beijing. Commenting on the Olympic contingent President Rajapaksa said that he met them and wished them all the best on behalf of the entire nation. “They are quite motivated” said the President Responding to a question on bilateral talk’s president Rajapaksa said that he met the Chinese President and several ministers.
Sri Lankas Olympic team manager Dian Gomez said that sprint athlete Susanthika Jayasinha who is participating in the 200 meters event is among the fastest twelve athletes in the world. “She has arrived after training in the US and we are looking forward towards her performance” said manager Gomez.
