Soldier shot dead in Batticaloa
Sri Lanka Army soldiers
It is the first time a soldier was killed since military re-captured the east
A twenty-year old soldier was shot dead allegedly by the LTTE in the eastern Sri Lankan town of Batticaloa on Tuesday.

Military authorities have accused the Tamil Tiger pistol gang of shooting dead RDP Senevirathne in Kalladi.

It is the first reported such incident since the Sri Lankan authorities announced the capture of the eastern province from the LTTE.

At least 12 policemen were killed in Batticaloa district since the commencement of the provincial council elections earlier this year but no military casualties were reported since the province was recaptured.

Soldier Senevirathne who has joined Sri Lanka Army a year ago was shot dead by assailants came in a motor bicycle, police said.

Police have begun investigations.
