Heavy fighting in Mulaitivu
Heavy fighting in the Mulaitivu district has left more than five thousand people homeless says Divisional secretary Emilda Sukumar.

The Tamil tigers and the SriLankan Army have been engaged in a fierce exchange of fire.

“Shells and artillery fire have been falling in to the villages of Mallavi and Thunukai and the villagers have been fleeing towards Kilinoachi” said Sukumar

She added that as government officials working in the area have also fled the area its difficult to find out the extent of the damage caused.

The villagers have to cross a long stretch of jungle to get to Kilinoachi and the Divisional secretary says that it’s not possible to provide any relief for those who are fleeing their villages.

“There is no one in those areas that could help those fleeing “said Sukumar
