12 policemen were killed in Batticaloa since the EPC elections
Three policemen were killed in a bomb blast in Aithyamale, Batticaloa, police said.

The attack has occurred while the policemen were taking bath in a nearby stream after the shift.

Another policeman has sustained injuries in the attack.

Police spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranjith Gunasekara told BBC Sandeshaya that it is suspected that a time bomb has exploded while they were taking bath.

12 policemen killed

12 policemen were killed in Batticaloa after the completion of the Eastern Provincial Council Elections (EPC).

A police constable and a junior officer of Special Task Force (STF) were killed in a claymore explosion at Kaludawala in the Kaluwanchikudi police division on Sunday.

Military accused the Tamil Tigers of carrying out the attack.

Opposition leader, Ranil Wickramasinghe, earlier accused Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan’s paramilitary group turned political party of killing at least two policemen.
