Indian arms support not against Tamils

amil actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida kazhakam (DMDK) party president Vijayakanth
A leading Tamil actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhakam (DMDK) party president Vijayakanth says one should not think that the arms support by India to Sri Lanka is against Sri Lankan Tamils.

During his maiden address to media persons in New Delhi, he was asked to comment about the reported arms supply to Srilankan government by India and was it not against the interest of Tamils.

"Why do you think it is against Tamils? It may of commercial interest’’, Vijayakanth asked media persons.

He said that, there are two different views in this issue; one is, Tamils and Tamil nadu. The other reason is, from Indian point of view, a national issue.

He said that the SriLankan government is trying to get close to China and Pakistan. But India doesn’t want that to happen. There are few confusions like this. In this context, you can take the view on this issue.

He termed LTTE as a banned organisation and refused to comment further on their activities.

At the same time, he wanted India to intervene to resolve the ethnic issue and also to ensure human rights for Srilankan Tamils, he said.

Vijayakanth had given a new twist on sethusamudram canal project controversy.

"We are hearing reports that there are seven such natural sand structures around the world. If that is true, then it is not true that Ramar sethu was not built by Ram. Indian government should find out the truth by a proper research", Vijayakanth added.
