Sri Lanka government has expressed its serious concerns about the recently released US State Department Report on Human Rights in Sri Lanka. Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama on Friday summoned the US Ambassador in Colombo Robert O Blake and conveyed the government's position while protesting the report on Sri Lanka as baseless. Minister Bogollagama has told the ambassador that the report has come to conclusions on baseless manner and based purely on hearsay, innuendo and exaggerations. Minister Bogollagama said that the government has apprised the diplomatic community in Sri Lanka of the human rights situation in Sri Lanka. Minister Bogallagama said that his meeting with the American Ambassador, Robert O Blake was intended to point out the factual situation in Sri Lanka and to ask the US to correct their information. When questioned by Sandesaya on disappearances and attacks on journalists Minister Bogollagama responded that the government has always taken appropriate action. US reaction
A statment issued by the Embassy in Colombo said that the U.S. Government stands by the report. It further says US government welcomes information from governments and other parties to correct what are perceived to be inaccuracies. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
