A librarian of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) Ranjani Aluthge was slashed with a razor on Wednesday.

She was on her way home in a bus when the incident happened. She has been admitted with two cut injuries to hospital for treatment.

Poddala Jayantha , the General Secretary of the Working Journalists Association (SLWJA) said she was the fourth SLRC employee who was attacked in the similar pattern.

He said she had been visible in video footage of the incident on December 27 where Labour minister Mervyn Silva and his aides were accused of assaulting the news director of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).

“There have been no other threats to her by anybody for any reason according to our information," said Poddala Jayantha.

Journliast Lal Hematha Mawalage was attacked by thugs

He said despite constant appeals by media organisations including SLWJA no legal action has so far been taken against those thugs involved in the SLRC incident.

“The police who do not take action against them are responsible for these incidents”, Poddala Jayantha said

International media watchdogs have urged Sri Lankan President to take immediate actions to punish the culprits who attacked journalists and protect media freedom
