Mr. Rajapaksa has said Mr. Ganeshan does not need security
The powerful Defence Secretary in Sri Lanka is accused of pushing moderate Tamil activists towards Tamil Tigers.

Western Peoples Front (WPF) parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan said President Mahinda Rajapaksa's younger brother is trying to portray him as a Tamil Tiger.

"I am a member of the Sri Lankan state. I am not supporting the idea of a separate state for Tamils," he told BBC Sandeshaya.

The Colombo district legislator was referring to Defence Secretary's comments to media where he accused MP Ganeshan of being an LTTE supporter.

Mr. Ganeshan does not need state security, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said, as his life will only be in danger if he goes against the Tamil Tigers.

"That is utter nonsense," he told BBC Sinhala.com.

"The government is angry over my human rights campaigning and they want me to join the government as other Tamil leaders".

Human rights campaign

Rajapaksa government, he added, has failed to identify the difference between the government and the state.

He was forced to temporarily leave Sri Lanka after the killing of popular Tamil MP, Nadaraja Raviraj, in Colombo in late 2006.
