SLMC leaders in a press conference
The Govt. is given until Wednesday to come up with a written pledge
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) says the party would leave Rajapaksa administration within days unless Muslims farmers' land dispute resolved.

SLMC Deputy General Secretary, Nizam Kariyappar, told BBC Sandeshaya that the party would take a firm decision on Wednesday unless a written pledge issued on the land dispute.

"The Environment ministry has designated Muslim farmers' paddy fields as uncultivating land," he said.

Jathika Hela Urumaya strongman, Champika Ranawaka, is the minister in charge of Environmental affairs.

The dispute between the government and the Muslim residents is regarding a circular issued by the ministry over 502 acres of paddy fields in the east.

SLMC leader, Minister Rauff Hakeem, earlier pledged not to engage in conspiracies to topple Rajapaksa government.

The SLMC is to decide whether to vote against the Rajapaksa administration after resigning from the government, Kariyappar said.
