Sri Lankan government has proposed that Central Governmnet of India should take charge of the investigation into the death of Fishermen's trade union leader, Canisius Fernando.

Fisheries Minister Felix Perera said on Wednesday that Sri Lanka has asked for a full scale investigation to find out the truth behind Canisius Fernando's death.

He was shot dead on Friday inside the Madurai Central Jail, where he had gone to meet three Sri Lankan fishermen who were being held for unauthorised entry into the Indian waters.

Trade union leaders in Sri Lanka have also urged Indian and Sri Lankan governments to launch a judicial probe.
