Leaflets distributed in the east has threatened people not to support Tamil parties

Leader of PLOTE, Dharmalingam Siddharthan, told BBC Sandeshaya that the party would be allowed to carry on political work in the east despite threats allegedly made by the Karuna group.

Leaflets distributed in Batticaloa in the name of Chennan Force has threatened people not to support TNA, TULF, EPDP, PLOTE and EPRLF political parties.

"If this warning is neglected, they will be killed", the leaflet stated.

The PLOTE leader said the party faced similar threats during nearly three decades of LTTE rule in the east.

"However, since our cadres are in constant touch with Karuna group at regional level we don't see why the differences cannot be resolved," he told BBCSinhala.com.

The Karuna group meanwhile rejected the allegation that they threatened political parties.

In an interview with BBC Tamil Service, leader of Karuna group's political wing Padminee said the group was not involved in such a campaign.
