MIG-27 deal legal says Govt.
Sri Lanka army
Government of Ukrain has not ordered a probe into the alleged deal for procurement of four Mig - 27 fighter jets by Sri Lankan military, says Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalle.

Talking to Sandesaya, Hulugalle dismissed newspaper reports.

"The Ukranian government has not acknowledged about such an investigation", he said.

Sri Lankan newspaper which commented on this deal recenly said that the deal was done through a third party, an unknown company named Bellimissa Holdings Ltd operating from London.

The newspaper report said that there is no office by that name at the London address.

"The deal was done leagally", Hulugalle added.

Investigation

Director-General of the MCNS Lakshman Hulugalle said that the Media Centre for National Security has started investigations on websites and persons who provide false information to foreign websites regarding Sri Lanka's national security.

He says that persons with narrow political ends or who support LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) are responsible for these anti-government activities.

He also said action will be taken to post information in the MCNS website in the Tamil language.

Mr Hulugalle added that primary works are currently underway to set up a new research unit at the centre.
