Suspect 'escapes' from HSZ police
Sri Lanka police
Police say the suspect escaped from a station in HSZ
The judiciary in northern Sri Lanka have ordered police to arrest a suspect accused of running away from a police station in a High Security Zone (HSZ).

The court made the order after police told the court that Selvaraja Thushyanthan, 27, has been escaped from a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp in Jaffna.

Selvaraja, father of one, was arrested by military on charges of possessing claymore mine on 29 May.

Beaten at Army camp

In a complaint filed with the human rights commission, his father states that that Selvaraja who went to the field for grazing the cattle was held by the SLA, and later in the night he was arrested on charges of possessing claymore mine.

After arresting him under Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), the SLA produced him before the court.

Answering a query by the judge at Chavakachcheri court, Selvaraja said he got injured as he was beaten at the SLA camp.

'Not doing well'

The father says he was called by the Chavakachcheri police saying that his son is not doing well.

When he went there his son was weak, swollen and unable to walk. The police pledged to release Selvaraja the next day, according to his father.

The next day police said Selvarajah has not returned from interrogation, says the father.

He says that after three days police said that his son has escaped from the police.
