SLRC workers 'executed'
Two Red Cross workers found killed in Ratnapura on Saturday were shot at close range, the post-mortem was heard.

Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at Ratnapura hospital Dr. Ajith Tennakoon told the hearing that two workers were shot at head using micro-type pistol.

Two volunteers of Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) have been abducted in front of Colombo Fort railway station by gunmen claiming to be policemen.

Their bodies were found on Saturday morning in Kiriella, Ratnapura district.

The bodies were identified as Sinnarasa Shanmugalingam, 32, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) Volunteer Unit and Karthikesu Chandramohan, 27, Assistant Executive Officer.

Head of SLRC Batticaloa branch K Vasantharajah said six of their employees were waiting at the station to return home after attending a two-day workshop in Colombo.

No other injuries

There were no signs of any internal or external injuries in the bodies, Dr. Ratnayake added.

The victims were fed with rice and koththu rotee one and half hours before they were shot dead, the specialist doctor told post-mortem inquiry.

Ratnapura magistrate NV Karunathilake ordered Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct investigations.

Handing over the bodies to deputy head of SLRC, AGM Rafeeq, the magistrate ordered them to be buried at Kalyaanakaadu public cemetery.
