'World Cup 2007' opening ceremony
'World Cup 2007' a spectacular start
“Our expectation is to win this world cup and we know that if we play well we have a better chance this time” said Mahela Jayawardana, captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Speaking to Sandeshaya before the first 2007 world cup match with Bermuda at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, Sri Lankan skipper said he and his team is not considering Bermuda game as an easy match to win.

“We take every single match as a challege “world cup hopeful Sri lankan skipper said.

“We never played against Bermuda and it is very important to us to have a good start in this world cup” added Mahela Jayawardana.

Sri Lankan team does not have a special game plan against Bermuda and is going to face them with their usual tactics.

On the 23rd of March Sri lanka is playing against India at Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain and many considers it to be the first real challenge Sri Lanka is going to face.

When asked about the forthcoming match Mahela said “we have not thought of that match yet, what we consider is the game we have today”.

Jayawardana expects that the Sri Lanka will be able to get a pitch that suits for spin bowlers and said “there are different pitches here and we have noticed that how West Indies won the match against Pakistan without using a single spin bowler”.
